"Catching up with you after all these years reminds me of how much I enjoy being seen attending charitable events."

The class behind mine at my high school had its 20th reunion this weekend and a friend let me take a peek at the "memory book" put together for the event. This entry stood out:
I have spent the last 10 years raising 3 gifted, compassionate, exceptional children with minimal trips to the Head of School's office. In between carpooling, cooking, and laundry I find time to jet to Europe, improve my tennis skills and ski destination resorts. Philanthropy has been another passion of mine. My husband and I like to be seen frequenting social guild events and auctions, partaking vociferously in all there is to offer. In our community we have made so many loyal and ethical friends with whom we feel a deep sense of shared values and a connection beyond big words. What busy years!
Dear God. She lists her occupation as "Stay at Home Mom, World Traveler & Fitness Guru," and in the entire entry I'm pretty sure that only thing intended ironically, possibly, is "fitness guru." Even there I'm not sure—she looks pretty fit in her photo.

I've just resolved that my kids are never attending a school administered by a "Head of School," not that I realized before now that this was even an option for the still-hypothetical little dears.
