Not what I was expecting to run across

Wow! What the hell did they do to him in New Haven? I suppose it's more likely this was just a bit of intellectual piece-work, prepared with little reflection, slavishly justifying policy goals advanced by others and bylined to the author's later regret. That would be more consistent with his famous later writings.
