Film notes

This weekend I saw "The Constant Gardener," definitely the most impressionistic political thriller I've seen, which is not a criticism. I was impressed by how well the narrative held together without most of the usual procedural detail. It's much better than the book, which was so unmemorable that I conveniently forgot what happens in the end until it was upon me in the film.

There was also a trailer for "North Country," starring Charlize Theron as a sexually-harassed iron miner in northern Minnesota. I'd love to know what kind of accent she was going for here. If someone with that accent showed up in my iron mine, she might be in for some serious ribbing, but things obviously went way, way beyond that here.

I've decided I'm not going to see North Country. Looked so uplifting!
