A show whose appeal is lost on me

Is it just me or is the show Monk just one very extended playing-out of the same joke? I haven't watched much of it, but that's the impression I've received. He has OCD. I get it. If it can be funny and fresh the first dozen times, that's a credit to the writers and Tony Shalhoub. But is this one joke really the stuff of multiple seasons, or even multiple episodes? There's a reason that Rain Man was a feature film.

The phrase "slender reed" comes to mind. Slender reed. Slender reed. Slender reed slender reed. Slender reed slender reed slender reed. Too slender to support the weight . . . not enough to support the weight. Too much weight. Fibonacci series helps it hold the weight. Slender reed slender reed slender reed slender reed slender reed. Slender reed slender reed slender reed slender reed slender reed slender reed slender reed slender reed. Slender reed slender reed slender reed slender reed slender reed slender reed slender reed slender reed slender reed slender reed slender reed slender reed slender reed. Slender reed . . . .
