Some perspective

As we pass a milestone of sorts in Iraq, having been involved there longer than we were involved in World War Two, I thought a few back-of-the-envelope calculations might help put things in perspective.
  • Number of WWII days to reach Iraq military deaths: 10

  • Number of Iraq War years to reach WWII military deaths: 521

  • Number of Iraq War years to reach WWII military deaths as a percentage of U.S. population: 1,158
(Based on 2,883 Iraq deaths, 407,000 WWII deaths, 1941 population 134 million and 2006 population 300 million)
