Be gentle
It intrigues me that conservatives extol our troops as professionals to be freely sent into the horrific physical situations their profession sometimes demands, but imagine that if anything should reach these soldiers' tender ears suggesting that "the nation" (in the form of some of its Republican senators) is not fully behind "the mission" (whatever that might be at this point), their morale will fall all to pieces. How about saying that as professionals they ought be able to deal? This is the profession that coined such classics as SNAFU and FUBAR, after all, and it should be no great stretch for them to apply those terms to the United States Senate and get back to the good fight.
If the troops are really such delicate flowers, does this highlight gaps in their training? Did some recruiter tell them that everyone in the country would agree with their every deployment and mission?
