You weren't really that into searching this blog anyway, were you?

I've been disappointed with some of Google's site-based search services, notably the one Photo.net uses, which provides results much worse than those of a Google Advanced Search specifying only results from the Photo.net site. Now that I have created a site-specific search for this blog (in the sidebar, at least for the moment), I see it is flawed as well. Moreover, I don't get the impression that readers have much interest in searching within the blog. So I will probably get rid of it soon. Chime in if you object.

For an example of the Google Custom Search's unreliability, try finding a post about Floyd Landis. It will tell you there are no results, despite a claim to have indexed the site one day ago. In fact, a search conducted through the Blogger Dashboard (which requires me to be logged in), brings up two entries, this one and this one. So, really, what's the point?

Also, the Google Custom Search results only link you to the month in the blog archives in which the search query appears (if you are lucky), rather than to the exact posts. So, really, what's the point? I'm not about to put the eyesore "Blogger Bar" at the top just to provide search functionality that might be better (though, why?).

Oh, my. I just tried searching for "film cameras" (not using quotes) and got no results. Yesterday there were results. No results now either for "film" or "cameras" separately. Strange. Definitely not ready for prime time.
