Cellphone video
“Somehow it will get out,” said Paul Friedman, the vice president of CBS News. “That video is going to be available somewhere on some channel or some site.” - New York Times, December 30, 2006That would be here. You don't have to watch it, but I thought I'd provide the link. It's not so bad—you just see him drop out of the frame, and later there is a split-second of him hanging. This video was edited, clearly, to remove the nine or ten minutes he reportedly was left hanging.
The interesting thing to me is he seems not to have been given the opportunity for last words. It's reported that his last words were “Down with the traitors, the Americans, the spies and the Persians,” but he was still speaking when the trapdoor opened and seems to have been unaware that those words would be his last. They were not last words in the sense we usually think of, where the condemned man is asked if he has any last words.
P.S., here's my favorite of the comments I've read so far on the video: "I am gonna let you in on a little history: America, put sadam in power after one of our invasions into it earlier.(desert storm i believe) In our defense, we did not know he was a homocidal manic."
Words fail me.
