She's definitely a front-running horse who needs to lead from wire to wire. If any others in the field draw even with her, she will fall back for good. - Don't Trust Snakes, May 7, 2007

So, you think a less-than-blowout win in Iowa will finish her off? Hmm.
Well, consider it this way: her strongest asset as a candidate is the sense that she is the inevitable nominee. That could go away very quickly. Consider what would happen if she comes in third in Iowa, which could easily happen, it seems to me, since she is few people's second choice and now already doesn't look inevitable. Democratic voters should increasingly realize that Hillary, just because of who she is, is uniquely capable of losing this upcoming general election that Potted Plant (D) would have in the bag. They may start to see nominating her as a gift to the Republicans, which seems to be the Republican view as well.
The details are different, but look how quickly Dean's support evaporated after he lost Iowa and--immediately thereafter--the confidence of primary voters in other states, who abruptly stopped seeing him as a viable nominee.
Imagine what happens if the once-presumptive nominee finishes THIRD in Iowa, staggers into New Hampshire a few days later in free-fall (and remember, Hillary has always been at her least appealing when she perceives herself to be under siege), maybe wins there but not resoundingly . . . and then has to go to, where, South Carolina . . . and then into that Mega Tuesday with voters thinking "my God, look what happened to her in Iowa . . . and in the first Southern primary . . . imagine what could happen in November . . ."
