What a relief

Whew! I sure am thankful that the judge in Chelan county has legitimized the gubernatorial election we had more than six months ago. With Gov. Gregoire now free to wield the full weight of her 129-vote mandate, we will hardly recognize the State of Washington in a few months.

I suppose Dino Rossi must really not want to be a U.S. Senator, because he would be sitting pretty for that if he had taken the high road on his election loss instead of obliging his party to make losing arguments in a rural court for six months. It does not say much for Rossi or the state party that neither of them had the good sense to let this one go. Can you imagine how preposterous it would have looked if Al Gore or John Kerry had carried on a quixotic struggle, with the full backing of their party, in some obscure part of the country? Naturally, no sane Democratic Party leadership would have allowed such a thing.
