Introducing the Don't Trust Snakes Outlook 2003 Challenge

A nice mixed CD will be awarded to the first reader who can explain to me the principle(s) determining in what order multiple file attachments are attached to messages in Outlook 2003. You would think that if you had files named, say, 01 through 09, and you hit the attach file button and blocked all of those files, they would be attached in numerical order, but no. You might then wonder if the files would be attached in order of size, or according to when they were created. But, no, it's neither one of those things either. It's Microsoft mystery.

Surely someone can enlighten me, and win a lovely mixed CD. The Don't Trust Snakes Outlook 2003 Challenge will remain open until I receive an answer I can understand that yields predictable results.

Speaking of CDs, I'm just listening to the three-CD Led Zeppelin live masterpiece "How the West Was Won" and it's easy to see why it shares the all-time high rating on metacritic.com. It kills. I'm not sure what Loretta Lynn and Brian Wilson's "Smile" are doing tied with this one, or why Outkast is next on the list. Let's just be realistic: in music heaven, André 3000 and Big Boi (if those are their real names) will be in charge of polishing John Bonham's spare drumsticks number 1345 and 1346, respectively.

When attaching files to an Outlook 2003 e-mail message the files will be attached in reverse-order from how they were selected.

Thus, if you want to have them appear in a set order, make sure you pick your first one last and the last one first.

Enjoy. Do I get a rice?
