Don't cure that disease, we haven't finished using it to scare people and advance our moralistic agenda

Isn't it amazing to think that policy about prevention and cure of heretofore incurable conditions (HPV and, presumably, other viral STDs) can possibly be influenced by abstinence advocates who worry about losing the use of these conditions as bugbears? It's appalling, really. [LINK]

I wonder what version of the Hippocratic Oath Dr. Reginald Finger took. Would he be having the same concerns about a herpes or AIDS vaccine? I see no logical reason why not--indeed, he should really have more serious objections to wiping out those diseases, which really do scare people. Just think of the awful promiscuity that might result if it were no longer possible to contract incurable and fatal diseases when having sex.
