"I admit the human element seems to have failed us here." - Gen. Buck Turgidson
A top U.S. general in Iraq, meanwhile, said the American military would embark within "a few days" on morals and ethics training for most of the roughly 150,000 multinational troops in Iraq, spurred by investigators' findings concerning the alleged killing by U.S. Marines of 24 men, women and children in the western town of Haditha late last year and allegations of a coverup. - Washington Post, June 2, 2006
"I'm just trying to imagine what Kant would think of this." - Charles Van Doren, Quiz ShowApparently, certian types of absurdity put me in the mind of movie quotes. So what might this training be, that some of our few and proud may have missed at Annapolis and Parris Island?
Imaginary training vignette:
Lance Corporal: Sir! Exactly what is the difference between morals and ethics? Sir!
Training Officer: An excellent question, lance corporal. Morals has to do with not entering civilian homes and shooting unarmed wheelchair-bound amuptees and their unarmed eight-, five- and four-year-old family members. Ethics is about not dishonestly reporting that the old man and children were killed in a IED explosion or the firefight that followed.
Lance Corporal: Sir! Thank you! Sir!
