How come?

I haven't done this in a while, so here goes.
  • How come you aren't using Firefox?

  • How come you aren't using Gmail? If you are using an email address ending in something like @hotmail.com, @yahoo.com, @comcast.net, @verizon.net or @earthlink.net, you should really get on over to Gmail. Let me know if you need an invitation. You don't if you have a cell phone as they will SMS a verification code to you.
I have been astonished by how much inertia people have when it comes to their email addresses. Of course you don't want to be switching all the time, but it takes no more than ten or fifteen minutes, at the outside, to
  1. Set your existing account to forward to your new Gmail address and

  2. Send a short form email to everyone in your list of contacts noting your new email address and asking them to update their contacts.
There, it's done. If you use an email client such as Outlook, you will need to configure it to Gmail and set the POP3 settings in Gmail. Gmail now has an automated wizard that will do this for you.

Expect to keep your Gmail address for the foreseeable future.

The ability to instantly search through all the email you have sent and received is invaluable. If you use Firefox and get the Customize Google extension, you can block all the (already unobtrusive) ads on the Gmail page.
