The viaduct vote

I wasn't sure until today how I would vote in the SMONBAE (stupid mail-only non-binding advisory election), but in the end I cast my ballot for the tunnel and against the new elevated option. And I found an old holiday stamp to mail it with, so the joke's on King County! Merry Christmas, King County, you cheap bastards! Screw you!

I'm sorry. What an un-MWR-like outburst. I love King County, which surely has always been named for Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and never at all for slaveholding U.S. Vice President William Rufus King. But that's all beside the point.

In voting for one of the options for replacing the Alaskan Way Viaduct (where you do not want to be driving in an earthquake), instead of against both of them as the hip, happening free-weekly wisdom would have had me do, I reasoned that if we can't even afford to put in a crappy four-lane (six lanes during rush hours, with no shoulders) cut-and-cover tunnel, then the city of Seattle is basically doomed no matter what.

I also voted as I did to show my confidence that the crappy four-lane cut-and-cover tunnel will be a stupendous place to ride out The Big One inside a moving vehicle. Good times!
