Aliens are so predictable

How come whenever a TV or movie alien impregnates a human, the pregnancy is always "accelerated"? Just for narrative convenience, I suppose. But it would be amusing to see some abductee go in for an ultrasound after eight months and find she's still carrying an embryo and is going to be pregnant with the alien baby for years.
