Ineptness all around
"Ben . . . as your attorney, your friend, and your brother . . . I strongly suggest that you get yourself a better lawyer." - Jerry Horne, Twin PeaksWith proper paraphrasing, very good advice for opponents of the current administration. It's sad that the left can't come up with better critics of an administration that's demonstrably inept in many ways. This continuing inability to lay a glove on the administration seems to be the special ineptness of its critics on the left.
Hats off to the director of ABC's "This Week with George Stephanopoulos" for the lingering shots on the other round-table members as Katrina Vanden Heuvel struggled to make the Cheney hunting accident into a metaphor for an inept and secretive administration--amused and vaguely bemused smiles all around.
My favorite exchange:
Vanden Heuvel: "Real men do take responsibility and do something with full-fledged live questions in terms of a whole nation."Later, Vanden Heuvel uncorked a really classic comment about Hamas: "You test them by engaging them. You test them by their deeds, not their words."
Cokie Roberts: "Oh that's not true. Candidates and politicians all the time choose their venues and he is hardly the first politician [to do that]."
Yes, by all means, let's not judge them hastily. Let's wait and test them by their deeds.
