Dream on
For millions of readers thinking, "They didn't really use that moth-eaten 'Triumph of the Will' set again, did they?" [Frank] Rich could be a virtual sanity-preserver. - Gary Kamiya, Salon, September 21, 2006I hate to rain on Gary Kamiya's parade, but there are nowhere close to "millions" of people in this country with even the slightest idea of what "Triumph of the Will" refers to. Does anyone seriously doubt that I'm right about this? If you did free-response survey, most people would not even pretend to have a clue, and most of those who did would probably tell you it was G. Gordon Liddy's autobiography.
Salon's editor will denounce the administration's analogies to 1930s appeasement, but implicit comparisons of the administration to the Hitler regime are apparently fine.
