Press briefings were given
White House press secretary Tony Snow told reporters that it was no longer clear who first initiated the idea of dismissing a large number of the 93 federal prosecutors following the 2004 elections.I love that the White House's current position is that no one can remember whose idea it was to dismiss all or a significant fraction of the U.S. Attorneys. And "At this juncture, people have hazy memories" surely takes its place among the classics of the genre.
"It has been described as her idea but . . . I don't want to try to vouch for origination," Snow said, referring to [Harriet] Miers. "At this juncture, people have hazy memories." - Washington Post, March 16, 2007
In a small footnote to all this, KUOW's Steve Scher satisfied his obligatory-wrong-fact obligation for today by suggesting that Miers was with the President on his Latin America trip, when in fact she resigned as White House Counsel effective January 31.
