Award Show Dissociative Disorder (ASDD)

Yes, yes, I well know the dangers of diagnosing yourself with an imaginary mental disorder you just made up five minutes ago . . . but, seriously, it seems like the Grammy Awards happen about every six months. I have the same problem with the Emmys. How sure are we that these shows aren't really semiannual?

Disorder or no, I find it very hard to take the Grammy Awards seriously, and not just because Kanye West won three last year while Led Zeppelin never won a real Grammy ever. You have to ask yourself what the Academy Awards would look like if the film industry followed the lead of music and began ignoring the lines between commercially successful crap and artistic achievement. We would see a very different list of Best Picture nominees this year. Adam Sandler would probably be nipping at Nicholson's heels.

Not to mention that in 2006 they would still be giving out Oscars to films released in 2004. Even though those same films had also been honored in 2005 (see, for example, the last two U2 albums). It's crazy.
